College Week 2019! The Wisdom Guidance and Counseling Department celebrated College Awareness Week! Teachers and staff wore shirts to represent their favorite college or university in an effort expose to our middle schoolers to life beyond high school. It is never too soon to start planning for your future and through a variety of fun activities we showed our students that the road to college starts right here at Wisdom Lane Middle School. It was a great week with students, faculty and staff participating in a variety of college themed activities. Each day began with the counselor's sharing college fun facts on the morning announcements. On Monday, the counselors were in the cafeteria during all lunch periods to invite students to participate in a "Name the Mascot" game, read through some college pamphlets or ask the counselor's questions. We learned that some of our Wisdom students already have a certain college in mind! On Wednesday, faculty and staff participated in a door decorating contest. The creativity and school spirit was quite impressive! We wrapped up the week with a visit to classrooms to discuss different types of colleges, what students can do now to prepare for college and we demonstrated this with some fun class activities.
College week has been an amazing experience for everyone involved! The students and staff had a blast as they all embark on the same college and career journey!!!

Seven-week Middle School 101 program begins on September 24th!
The Wisdom Lane Guidance Department will begin their annual Middle School 101 program to assist 6th grade students in successfully transitioning into middle school. The Middle School 101 curriculum provides students with numerous opportunities to interact with School Counselors, acclimate to their new environment and receive support in achieving their personal best! Studies show that engaging students in social-emotional learning activities builds character, resilience and prevents and/or reduces involvement in risky behaviors (e.g., drug use, violence, bullying). Counselors will lead interactive lessons and skill-building classroom activities on various topics including:
Introduction to building & support staff
Self-awareness and identification of strengths and weaknesses
Motivation, goal-setting, growth mindset
Healthy study habits including time-management and organization
Relaxation and mindfulness skills
